Tessa Goldie commented on Tessa Goldie's blog post 'Far enough down the rabbit hole of thought? I think not.'
Yes, I do think everyone should try to exceed their own comfort zone, it makes life interesting and sometimes even frightening. Very few are able to get out of their own zone everyday unless they lead a life where this is possible, I know I do not…

eudaimonia

Eudaimonia (εὐδαιμονία) comes from two words in ancient Greek: eu (εὐ), meaning "good" or "well-being," and daimon (ὐαιμον), meaning "spirit." It's commonly translated as happiness; but not happiness in the sense that the modern world usually understands it.

What does it mean?

We're hoping a few students here can flesh out our understanding. Feel free to edit this text box.

Welcome Island Pacific School & Calgary Science School

Students from IPS and CSS come together here with their teachers, Brad Ovenell-Carter, Dave Scott and Neil Stephenson, and guests to discuss philosophy.

We hope that the group members will find this a place for rich, critical discourse. But we also hope that other students and teachers experimenting with social media and collaborative tools will draw useful lessons out of our experience here.

Please note that anyone can view the discussions here, but you must be invited or request a membership to be able to add your comments.

And students, your work here is important. This is a public forum and people will judge you by what you say and do here. There's a line in the very oldest poem in English that reads:

Ǣghwæþres sceal scearp scyld-wiga gescād witan, worda ond worca, sē þe wē þenceð.

Translated it says "Anyone with gumption and a sharp mind will take the measure of two things: what's said and what's done." That's Old English for "talk the talk and walk the walk." Like Mark Twain said, the ancients stole all our ideas from us.
